October Scholarships & Opportunities — Quick Guide for Vikings
- Our October Scholarships & Opportunities list is live. Below are a few highlights and dates students should know right now. Always check the official website linked in the newsletter—deadlines and amounts can change.
High-Priority Items:
- FAFSA is open for seniors. Most scholarships (and many grants) require a submitted FAFSA—make your FSA ID and file ASAP.
- Daniels Scholarship (Grade 12). Local opportunity recognizing character, leadership, service, academics, and need; ACT 18+, GPA 3.0+. Rolling window through Oct 17.
Scholarships & Contests
- STEMHeads (Grades 10–12): Passion for STEM; awards $1,000–$5,000; due Oct 17.
- Hercules First Federal Credit Union (Grade 12): Essay; not based on GPA/ACT; $1,000–$2,000; due Nov 1.
- Elks Most Valuable Student (Grade 12): National awards; select Bountiful Elks Lodge #2442 as sponsor; due Nov 12.
- Civility Essay (Grades 10–12): Open to all high-schoolers; due Dec 1.
- America’s Freedom Festival contests (Grades 10–12): Essay/Speech/Art/Video themed on the First Amendment; deadlines Mar 1/Apr 1.
- Robinson Injury Law (Grade 12): GPA 3.25+, Utah/AZ colleges; $500; due Mar 13.
College Events & Programs
- USU “True Blue Senior Day” (Grade 12): Explore admissions, scholarships, student life; dates Oct 25 and Nov 14 (register a week in advance).
- USU “Aggie Advantage” (Grade 12): File FAFSA by Feb 1, 2026 to receive $500 (SAI ≤ 8,000 gets an extra $500).
- Davis Tech High School Senior Scholarship (Grade 12): FAFSA + application; potential free tuition at DTC after graduation; due Mar 30.
- University of Utah Travel Agent Competition (Grade 12): Build a Utah itinerary; $1,000–$2,000; due Oct 20.
- West Point Academies Info Night (Grades 10–12): Learn about service-academy routes to college; Oct 30, 6:30 pm.

Viewmont High will host Utah College Application Week (UCAW) support October 6–8 during SRC/Lunch in the Library. Students can stop by any of the three days—Monday, Oct 6; Tuesday, Oct 7; or Wednesday, Oct 8—to get help with applications, essays, and next-step planning.
Bring your Chromebook and any login information you’ll need. Counselors and staff will be available to answer questions and help you make progress on your college goals.
The VHS Interact Club is collecting new socks to donate to the Valhalla Student Center and other Davis County Teen Centers.
Collection dates: October 1–15
Drop-off locations: Bins at Viewmont High School by the main office and the back door near the Teen Center.

Juniors
Breakfast will be served at 7:15 AM
Testing begins at 7:30 AM and will conclude around 12:00 PM
Buses will run on a regular M/T/Th/F schedule
Students should bring: Picture ID, Calculator, #2 Pencils
Room assignments will be posted in the commons and outside the counseling office approximately one week before the test
Lunch will be served at 11:15 AM
Students may meet with teachers, if needed, beginning at 1:00 PM

Beginning Wednesday, September 10th, you will be able to schedule Zoom meetings with teachers through myDSD. Scheduling will close on Monday, September 15th at noon. Look on the teacher's homepage on Canvas for instructions on how to join the Zoom meeting.
Viewmont High School will be offering the PSAT to all sophomores and juniors on Tuesday, October 1st, beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the Media Center.
This test is more than just practice for the SAT—it provides valuable benefits for students, including:
Identifying academic strengths and areas for improvement
Gaining familiarity with the SAT’s format and timing
Qualifying for the National Merit Scholarship Program (for juniors)
Exploring college and scholarship opportunities through the College Board
We encourage all students to take advantage of this important opportunity!

For Juniors: Tests may be purchased now through Friday, September 19th at 3:00 p.m.
For Sophomores: Tests may be purchased beginning after September 19th
Final Deadline: Friday, September 26th at 3:00 p.m. (or until tests are sold out)
Seats are limited, so don’t wait—secure your spot early!
1) Are you using the MyRideK-12 app to get your student's information?
a. No: Visit DSD Transportation website to download.
b. Yes: Go to #2
2) Is your student enrolled in a Special Education program?
a. Yes: Contact student’s teacher or DSD Special Ed Dept. to verify student data (2-5485)
b. No: Go to #3
3) Is your General Education student linked to a parent in the MyRideK-12 app?
a. No: Refer parents to the Transportation Department MyRideK-12 landing page (MyRideK12 | Davis School District) to use the “Need Help” button where dispatchers and routers can resolve these concerns.
b. Yes: Go to #4
4) Are the parents looking at bus info for August 18 or later?
a. No: Select “Details” button from the student’s tile (inside the MyRideK-12 portal) to see routes scheduled in the future. (If the student is not bus eligible, it will say so here.)
b. Yes: Refer parents to the Transportation Department MyRideK-12 landing page (MyRideK12 | Davis School District) to use the “Need Help” button where dispatchers and routers can resolve these concerns.
A SYNC ERROR WITH MYDSD IS RENDERING UNRELIABLE RESULTS, PARENTS USING THE MYRIDEK-12 APP WILL GET THE BEST RESULTS.
School pictures will be taken during English classes on the first 2 days of school, August 18th and 19th. If your student does not have an English class at Viewmont, they can come any time during the school day on either of those days.
