WHAT is a Certificate of Completion (COC)?

The COC is a credential awarded by Weber State University showing that you have completed Weber State’s General Education (GE) requirements. These requirements are needed for associate and bachelor’s degrees and are outlined on this paper. You must also maintain a 2.0 WSU GPA, complete at least 10 credits through WSU, and graduate. The COC is accepted by all public, Utah institutions and waives general education requirements at that institution.  BYU and Westminster are private institutions that will accept credits, but may require additional courses be taken towards general education requirements for their school.

  • CE courses are $5 per credit (ex. 3 credits X $5 = $15).  A book fee may also be required.

  • The COC consists of approximately 27 college credits.

  • CE courses require admission to the college and registration in the CE courses.

  • It is recommended that a student have a 3.0 GPA or higher to enroll in CE courses.

  • To earn college credit in a CE course the student must earn a C or higher.

  • To earn college credit in an AP course the student must pass the AP exam with a 3 or higher.  An AP exam in a foreign language must be passed with a 5.

  • Student’s working towards the COC need to meet with the WSU Advisor at VHS for official tracking and planning.

  • Weber State general education requirements are subject to change.

  • If a student does not complete the COC, the credits will most likely transfer, but will be subject to review by the institution student attends.

  • Each class can only be counted in one general education area.

*CE classes begin a college GPA.  It is important to earn the highest grades possible.

There are three scholarships to keep in mind when working towards the COC.
