Happy National School Counseling Week! We are so grateful to have the amazing Dawn Larson as our counselor at Taylor Elementary School. She is an immense help to students, families, teachers, and the school community. Though her family has lived in five different states over the years, Dawn and her four children all attended and graduated from Taylor Elementary. She loves being a part of our community and to see students succeed along their educational journey.
Her role as a school counselor involves supporting students’ academic, personal, and social growth. She provides individual counseling, group counseling, and classroom guidance lessons to help students tackle academic challenges, build positive relationships, and manage their emotions effectively. Counselors serve as an advocate for students, a resource for families, and a collaborator with teachers and school leaders to create a positive and nurturing school environment.
Thank you, Ms. Dawn, for all that you do! We are better because of you!

What an amazing field trip for our fourth graders! They had the opportunity to explore the state capitol building, learning about its earthquake retrofitting, and the fascinating movies filmed in Utah. They also discovered the history of the capitol building's restoration, the stunning rotunda, and the three branches of government. A highlight was meeting Senator Todd D. Weiler! 🏛️✨

🌌⚔️ Epic Viking Adventure Alert! Our 3rd graders wrapped up their Language Arts unit on Norse Mythology with a thrilling Ragnarok celebration! 🐉✨ They tackled challenges across the Norse realms and even met Vik, the Viewmont High School Viking! Today we observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in honor of the late Dr. King. We encourage you to use this day to remember his legacy and impact by learning more about his passions and becoming more involved in our community.
Earlier this school year, one of our fourth-grade students represented Taylor Elementary School in the Davis School District Office of Equal Opportunity Martin Luther King, Jr. Speech Contest. She chose an excerpt from Dr. King's speech titled, "I've Been to the Mountaintop," which was originally delivered on April 3, 1968, at the Mason Temple in Memphis, Tennessee. She chose this speech because it inspires her to be better and she agrees with Dr. King's passion for freedom and equality for everyone. In the speech's entirety, Dr. King calls for unity and nonviolent protest while challenging the United States to uphold the promises in the United States Constitution and the Declaration of Independence for freedom for all. This was his final speech, as he was assassinated the following day.
Our fourth grader reprised her speech for her class. You can view her performance on our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/paw0h4yM_1U?si=bh9c81CnqGW569dL

Today is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day and we certainly appreciate everything that the Centerville Police Department does to keep our students and community safe. We especially appreciate our School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Kasey Scott!
Officer Scott is awesome! The students at Taylor Elementary love to see him and ask him all sorts of questions. We love to have him be a positive role model and trusted adult for our students. This is Officer Scott’s third year as an SRO at all the schools in Centerville City. He has been an officer and detective with Centerville Police Department for 7 years and says that the role of an SRO is the most rewarding position in the police force.
He gets to work closely with the 6th grade students in the DARE program to teach about decision making and resistance strategies. He helps all students learn more about how to be a productive member of the community, discourages bullying, provides support for what to do in various emergency situations, intervenes when there are safety concerns, and shares community resources with students and families.
Officer Scott is a Davis County native, graduated from the Weber State University Police Academy, and still resides in Davis County with his family. He said that he has always had an interest in police work and wanted to stand up for what is right and help people, so he became a police officer about 10 years ago.
We are grateful for Officer Scott and the Centerville Police Department!

Happy New Year to you and your loved ones! We are excited to see students again on Tuesday, January 7 for the beginning of third term.

We had some special visitors from the North Pole at Taylor Elementary School! Buddy the Elf helped Santa and Mrs. Claus go to each classroom to deliver a treat and say hello! A key reminder from Santa was for the fabulous students of Taylor to continue to be on the nice list.

"The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear." -Buddy the Elf
Our Christmas sing-along assembly this morning was full of cheer and laughter! Each grade level sang a carol to the school. We even had a mischievous Grinch, a smiling Elf, and joyful Mr. and Mrs. Claus!
