There was an incognito game amongst the faculty and staff today, but many students caught on and attempted to help their teachers. Mrs. Quist and Ms. Loosle planned a Grinch Game where six grinch portraits were distributed throughout the school. It was a battle throughout the day to see which staff members ended up with the grinch. Congrats to these six winners!

The sixth-grade students were able to go to Viewmont High School recently for their annual "Cookie Concert." Viewmont and the neighboring junior high schools invite the sixth graders in their boundaries to come and get excited about band. Our students learned about some of the instruments that they could play when they move on to junior high. #davisschooldistrict

Congratulations to Mrs. Halversen and the current third graders! Last school year, Mrs. Halversen's second grade class had 100% of the students make well above typical, above typical, or typical growth in Acadience Reading. This is not an easy feat. Every single student made significant growth in reading! Well done to Mrs. Halversen and her students. Some of those second graders are lucky to have her again this year as their third-grade teacher. Today, Ms. Keller, the Area Director for Taylor Elementary School came to recognize Mrs. Halversen and her outstanding work as a teacher. 2023-2024 Acadience Reading Growth for Mrs. Halversen's Second Grade Class 82% Well Above Typical Growth 14% Above Typical Growth 4% Typical Growth #davisschooldistrict #acadiencereading

Our third-grade students are lucky to have Mrs. Halversen or Ms. Menlove as their teachers! These two are exceptional at teaching students about multiplication, division, Earth and Space, rights and responsibilities as community members, and much, much, more! We appreciate them and all that they do! Mrs. Jeni Halversen loves helping students find joy in learning new things and supporting them in navigating challenges. She has been a teacher for 14 years, with the last 4 at Taylor Elementary with fantastic teachers and staff. Like the words of Buddy the Elf, Mrs. Halversen says, “Teaching is my favorite!” Ms. Shauntelle Menlove loves teaching some of the best kids at Taylor Elementary School in the best grade in the best community! She has worked here for 5 years and has loved every moment. When she was in third grade, she wanted to be a paleontologist.

The fourth-grade teachers at Taylor Elementary School are amazing! These two work well together to create a fun learning environment for fourth grade students. From teaching about the geography and history of the state of Utah to complex computations with fractions, these teachers do it all. We are grateful for all that Ms. Loosle and Mrs. Quist do to help our students be successful in school and in life. Ms. Kim Loosle has taught at Taylor for the last 10 years, and this is her fourth-year teaching fourth grade. She loves and adores the many awesome people that are a part of the Taylor community. A fun fact about Ms. Loosle is that she loves flamingos. She wishes that she loved the hotter climates so that she could hang out with flamingos all day and eat pineapple. Mrs. Laura Quist has been at Taylor Elementary for her entire teaching career. This is her third-year teaching fourth grade but has also taught third and fifth grades. She loves Taylor Elementary and believes that we have the best staff and students (we wholeheartedly agree). You may see her adding a splash of lime to her food because she says it is one of the best condiments out there.

One of our sixth graders was honored at "Soup with the Supe" with our principal, Dr. Denhalter, and the district superintendent, Dr. Linford. One student from each school is nominated each year. Our honoree is exemplary and has had an impact in Taylor Elementary School's culture of belonging and inclusion. Congratulations to our honoree!

The kindergarteners at Taylor Elementary are so lucky to have such amazing teachers working with them. We have an awesome kindergarten team. Chelsey Lang loves teaching kindergarten! When she is not teaching, she enjoys traveling, camping, and spending quality time with her sons. Katie Davis absolutely loves the students, staff, and the feeling of community at Taylor Elementary! This is Mrs. Davis’s second year as a kindergarten teacher, but her fifth year working at Taylor. She is a Centerville native and attended Taylor Elementary as a student. A fun fact about Mrs. Davis is that she loves to bake, and she had her own bakery in Wyoming. Ann Barker is the aide in Mrs. Lang’s class. We don’t know what we would do without Mrs. Barker. She has worked at Taylor for many years, and she has done so much to help students progress. Krista Johnson is the aide in Mrs. Davis’s class. She is happy to provide support to the kindergarten students in the morning and then she switches to music mode as our school music teacher. She loves being at Taylor Elementary! Mrs. Johnson is an avid reader and has read over 80 books this calendar year (and is still counting), one of her favorites is Alice in Wonderland. We are grateful for the kindergarten team and all that they do to help our students learn fundamental skills in early childhood.

Next week (Monday, December 9) is our Art Winter Wonderland from 5:00-6:30 pm. Come bundled up to stay warm while you walk the outside of the school to see the decorated classroom windows. There will be hot cocoa available in the courtyard behind the school and you can say hello to a North Pole visitor in the school foyer. We suggest that you bring flashlights so you can see the displayed artwork a little better.
